Sections are your workflow. Nothing actually happens when a task crosses one — the move is a signal to your team that no software is listening to.
What it does
- Move a task into your analyze section, and the AI posts a breakdown grounded in your codebase.
- Discuss it in the task comments, and it replies, asks what is missing, and agrees the scope.
- Move it into your build section, and it opens a pull request.
- The relay handles Asana's
X-Hook-Secrethandshake and HMAC, and routes every webhook event.
What it will not do
It never moves tasks between sections, completes them, or merges its own pull request. Section moves stay the thing your team does to signal intent.
The handshake nobody enjoys
Asana establishes a webhook with an X-Hook-Secret handshake that must be echoed back correctly before any events flow, and signs everything afterwards. The relay does both for you — it is the fiddliest part of wiring Asana up by hand, and it is the part the installer removes.
Setup takes about five minutes
Clone the repo, run ./setup.sh, pick Asana, and answer a few questions — your IDs, your tokens, your conventions. The installer copies the recipe into your repository, sets your secrets, and prints whatever manual steps are left with your real values already filled in. No server to host, no database to run, nothing to pay for beyond the AI you already use.
Honest status: beta. It is built and smoke-tested, and it carries a live-fire checklist in its README that I am working through one tool at a time. It has not yet been proven on a busy project. If you hit an edge, open an issue — that is exactly what the beta label is asking for.
The recipe is MIT-licensed and open source: ai-automations. It is one of 35 — see the series overview for the full list and the rules every recipe follows. If your tool is not on the list, name it and I will build the automation for it, free.
FAQ
Will it move tasks between sections?
No. It never moves tasks, completes them, or merges its own pull request. Section moves stay the way your team signals intent.
Do I have to handle Asana's webhook handshake?
No. The relay does the X-Hook-Secret echo and the HMAC for you. That handshake is the fiddliest part of wiring Asana up by hand, and the installer removes it.
Which events does it see?
The relay routes every webhook event, not just section changes.
